About getting you up and running independently
Unlike some of our competitors, our number one priority is NOT simply to ensure that we get on an endless maintenance treadmill. Our motivation is to get results from fully operational solutions that you can run on your own. Therefore we always aim to create solutions that are simple, cost effective and - most importantly - self sustaining. Having said that of course, we will be glad to support you as long as you need us, and we hope you’ll be so happy with our work that you’ll come back to us time and time again.
About who owns what we do
It’s almost inevitable in our line of business that many different customers will ask us to create the same solutions many times over. When the job’s complete we will - of course like any other developer - hand over all of our work to you, however consultants can’t forget what’s already in their heads. That’s often why people use consultants, and frequently the second client gets the same result quicker and cheaper than the first. Therefore we will analyse all contracts before we quote you for the work and if you or we believe the results are likely to be reusable, we will come to a specific agreement to either reduce charges accordingly or - for a price of course - agree to decline any contract from your competitors that is substantially the same. However we are great believers in th Open Source philosophy, so you must also agree to abide by that philosophy too, which means that if you benefit from a free open source application and we develop a module for that at you request, I’m afraid we’ll be donating back that module- for free.
On training
If we have to acquire new skills or learning in order to best meet your needs, though it will help you, training is for our benefit, so why should you have to pay for it?
On our charging
So we’ll always charge you for a consultant, designer or developer with the appropriate skills at the lowest cost. And if all you need is a lead consultant or junior designer but we give the work to a more senior employee, we promise to charge the lowest rate. We also promise never to charge you for information or software that we get for free - though we’ll usually charge for our time getting it and customising it
Times are hard and you are probably putting your own people under pressure to minimise their expenses cost. In this climate we see no reason why our consultants should expect to travel in any more style than your own people do. So we guarantee that all of our expenses will be based on the lowest reasonable fares and the lowest priced local 2 star (Expedia rating) accommodation available on Expedia. Also if we’re doing a visit to another customer in your area on the same trip we promise to share the costs across both customers and not charge twice.
